It’s Sweet, Safe and Slow in “Old Hawaii”
We love seeing our wonderful Pacific Naturopathic Hawaii Vacation Retreat House through children’s eyes.
Children are awed by the Jaboticaba fruit that cover its tree trunks in season.
They’re amazed to learn how bananas grow, and thrilled by the flowering pumpkin patch with its tiny emerging globes.
They love gathering avocados, lemons, and limes and other edibles that they may be meeting for the first time – like starfruit and Surinam cherries. (Starfruit slices are indeed star-shaped.)
They search the grounds under the Rudraksha tree for the brilliant blue marble-like fruits that house seeds used to make meditation malas (necklaces).
Children accustomed to supermarket bananas are stunned by the beauty of the banana flowers and the varied flavors of the wild bananas.
Eating a miracle fruit before sucking on a lemon will cause the lemon to seem like a sweet delicacy.
Spoonfuls of mame sapote fruit are like custard.
Season after season, the land surprises our visitors with fruits and flavors, rainbows that suggest magical beings, moist sparkles in the air, and starry, starry nights.

Please note: The requirements for a visit have shifted, and most probably will shift again. Beginning July 8, 2021, individuals fully vaccinated in the United States or its Territories may enter Hawaii on domestic flights without pre-travel testing/quarantine starting the 15th day after the completion of their vaccination. All other travelers must have their negative test results from a Trusted Testing and Travel Partner prior to departing as an alternative to Hawaii’s mandatory 10-day quarantine. As of June 15, all passengers who are not in quarantine are free to travel between islands without restriction.
