When New Medical Technology Meets Ancient Energy Medicine

“Energy medicine” embraces an increasingly broad array of new approaches to healing, from the most extreme “woo-woo” notions of the far-out fringe, to commonly accepted practices such as MRI, electrocardiography, and CT scans.

Electron microscopy and atomic absorption spectroscopy tell us that the atoms in our bodies are not still – that they are constantly pulsating in measurable frequencies, and they are held in their orbits by electromagnetic fields.

Einstein first proposed that matter is composed of energy in the early years of the last century – his theories of special relativity and general relativity were published in 1905 and 1915. Today, it’s a daily feature of every medical practice to measure brain and heart waves by detecting the frequencies and flow of their energies in the body.

Machines for measuring the frequencies of other organs such as the liver, pancreas, and colon have been in development for years.

As these new diagnostic devices enter the medical mainstream, we’ll be able to spot the difference between a liver that is pulsating electrically at a healthy frequency, and a liver with compromised function.

Perhaps of greatest relevance for us as patients, we’re also beginning to understand how to change the unhealthy frequencies so that ailing liver cells will begin to pulsate in a healthy way.  These revolutionary new energy therapies will allow healing to be accomplished without surgery or drugs.

“Star Trek medicine” indeed!

The dual idea that the body is held together by an electromagnetic field, and that we can influence that field to change the body for the better isn’t actually new.

  • Japanese scientists have known for many years that magnets applied externally may have beneficial effects in certain medical conditions.
  • Chinese medicine is based on the premise that the energy in the body flows through certain circuits or meridians, and that when one or more of the energy meridians is blocked, ill health results.  Acupuncture and other techniques are designed to release these blockages so that the energy can flow freely again.
  • Music and art are another form of energy medicine. When we listen to music or enjoy artistic creations, our bodies release tension as our vibrational frequencies harmonize with those of the medium we’re experiencing. We are transported to the special places only art and music can take us.
  • Various forms of healing by laying-on of hands have been practiced for countless centuries as a means of altering the body’s energetic patterns.  In modern times, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, Joh-Rei, and others are practiced widely.

In our practice at Pacific Naturopathic, we’ve observed that there’s also a connection between the inner attunement and intention of the practitioner and the effectiveness of a given therapy.  But that’s a discussion for another time.

Although much of modern Naturopathic Medicine is based on therapies that are supported by strong scientific evidence, its roots are deeply grounded in how the practitioner’s and patient’s state of mind can contribute to the state of the patient’s body; in other words, how the powerful vibrations of the mind can change the energetic patterns of the body.

As naturopathic doctors, we have a wide variety of energetic therapies at our disposal, including flower essences, craniosacral therapy, orchid essences, homeopathy, and – yes – a type of laying-on of hands.

I’ve always thought that Jesus was able to heal the sick and create miracles because he was attuned to energetic patterns of cosmic creation itself, from the pulsations of atoms to the vibrations of stars. Thus he knew how to alter the frequencies of the sufferer’s body, mind, and soul by transmitting those vibrations with a mere look or the touch of a hand.

In the end, what difference does it make where true healing comes from?  If a therapy is non-invasive, harmless, and alleviates suffering, why not make use of it immediately?  Why limit ourselves to the world of coarse medical thinking, with its narrow obsession with numbers, when a vast universe of benign energetic approaches is available, right now?
