Many people are familiar with the herbal sleep aids sold in health food stores and online as pills or tinctures. But I’m betting few have savored the sweet, healing powers of herbal honey.

Honey has been used forever as a vessel for delivering and enhancing the healing properties of herbs. Raw honey itself is a medicinal treasure trove, filled with active enzymes, vitamins, and minerals.

Honey’s benefits are seemingly endless. A great deal of research has been devoted to studying these benefits.

The HoneySown beekeepers on the Big Island of Hawaii have blended their love of bees and honey and their strong passion for herbal medicine to bring us some of the purest, most potent natural herbal tonics available.

We’ve begun to carry several of these herbal honey formulas in our office, including Depths of Muku.

A description from the folks at HoneySown:

“If trouble sleeping is what brought you here, you need look no further. Many times herbal supplements for occasional sleeplessness only contain one or two herbs, and those herbs may not always work for everyone. That is why Depths of Muku™ includes multiple calming, soothing sleepy herbs that when combined are sure to do the trick. This is a very potent blend that has yet to disappoint.”

Active Ingredients in Depths of Muku:

Valerian is an effective sleep aid that enables insomnia sufferers to fall asleep faster and enjoy a better quality of sleep. Its sedating medicinal qualities have been known for centuries. Not only is it a great remedy for insomnia, it also helps relieve anxiety and high blood pressure.

Skullcap, which valerian’s benefits as a sleep aid and relaxant, is also anti-inflammatory and helpful in many anxiety-related issues. Native to North America, skullcap thrives in the wild and was used by Native Americans and early settlers as a treatment for rabies. Its restorative properties support and nourish the nervous system while reducing stress, making it a key component of Depths of Muku.

California Poppy is a mild sedative that helps with insomnia, depression, aches and pains, anxiety, and general emotional stability. A calming remedy for stressful times, California poppy, combined with the other herbs in Depths of Muku, helps the body relax into deep sleep.

Kava, while not traditionally used to treat sleeplessness, can definitely assist in that area. Throughout the Pacific Islands, including Hawaii, Kava has been used for ceremonial purposes as drink to be passed among the celebrants. The effects are calming, sedative, and euphoric.

Passionflower is known for reducing anxiety and agitation, lowering blood pressure, improving sleep, and promoting a balanced mood.
