Upper Body Thermography for Identifying Possible Breast Health Issues

You may already be aware of the known connection between periodontal disease and cardiovascular health.

But did you know there’s also a connection between dental health and breast health?

In a majority of thermography studies where women had undergone mastectomies due to breast cancer, facial hot spots were found on thermographic images taken on the same side as the mastectomy.

Dr. Connie Hernandez, ND

The dental issues indicated on thermography were often asymptomatic at the time of screening, but were verified within six months to a year after.

Hot spots may indicate periodontal disease, an infected tooth or root canal, or a temporomandibular (TMJ) issue.

(The temporomandibular joint is a sliding hinge connecting your jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw.)

Would you believe it? Sinus issues may also be picked up on thermography, and may be implicated in elevated risk ratings for the breasts.

These issues all affect lymphatic flow, which in and of itself can affect the thermal risk ratings on breast thermography.

AND THERE’S MORE…

Thyroid issues often precede breast issues. Upper body thermography can reveal hot spots that can later be definitively diagnosed as nodules by thyroid ultrasound.

Thermography can also reveal cold spots around the thyroid gland.

Adding upper body thermography to a breast thermography exam can help us clarify what causal influences to look for when breast thermography indicates a need for further investigation.
