Can Hidden Energies Heal or Harm Us?

One of the most important scientific revelations of the last 150 years was published in a small, obscure book by a then-equally obscure but fully liberated swami in Bengal.

Sri Yukteswar’s small tome, titled The Holy Science, presented breathtaking insights regarding the history of the world, and how civilizations rise and fall in repeated ascending and descending cycles that last approximately 24,000 years.

The subject is immense, and far too abstruse for me to go into detail. But if you’re intrigued, you can read a highly entertaining and enlightening account in a modern book called The Yugas – Keys to Understanding Our Hidden Past, Emerging Energy Age, and Enlightened Future, by Joseph Selbie and David Steinmetz.

The authors present an abundance of evidence from the historical and archaeological record in support of the existence of these cycles, or yugas as they are called in the ancient scriptures of India.

They make a strong case for the idea that the world has recently entered an age of energy-awareness, beginning shortly before the discovery by Albert Einstein that energy, not matter, is the fundamental reality at the heart of the universe.

Since then, our lives have been flooded with scientific discoveries and consumer products that have all been based on an awareness of energy and its applications – from the radio, to nuclear fusion, to the iPhone and beyond.

As medicine has evolved along with the emerging energy age, much that was once invisible has become visible. We now have access to amazing energy-based tools for diagnosing illness, including electron microscopy, ultrasound, x-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, and more.

Thanks to sophisticated energy-based scientific techniques and biochemical methods we can now measure metabolites and clarify metabolic pathways, map molecular structures, and quantify the balance of hormones and nutrients in the body.

As our understanding of the interplay between matter and energy has evolved, we have learned that visible physical forms coalesce around invisible patterns of energy.

All living tissues follow energetic patterns and generate their own energetic vibrations as they grow.

Every gland, organ, tissue, and microorganism vibrates at its own unique rate. These vibrational fields, though unseen, can be detected and measured.

Disturbances or distortions in the body’s energy field result in physical disease. Balancing these disturbances and distortions can heal us. We may heal the physical body temporarily with physical medicine, but if the energetic patterning remains disturbed, the body will, in time, again reflect that imbalance.

Not only the physical body but everything in creation has a unique vibrational signature. All of these vibrations interact with each other and affect each other – and us, whether they are electromagnetic fields emitted by our electronic devices, or the light, color, sound, and electromagnetic fields of other living beings.

We can now measure and use energetic frequencies to affect the body’s intracellular communication, cellular membranes, metabolic processes, and DNA. We can reduce pain, lower inflammation, and elevate mood.

Beyond those invisible but quantifiable forces is the even deeper invisible realm of consciousness, the vibration that creates, sustains, and guides the universe.

This was invisible energetic power that went out from Jesus Christ when he healed the woman who had suffered for years from hemorrhagic bleeding. When she touched the hem of  his robe, she was healed. He said, “Who touched me? … I felt power go out from me.”

This is the power that the healer’s touch is intended to channel. It is the Vix Medicatrix Naturae, the healing power of nature that has always been understood by naturopaths and others to be the ultimate source of all healing.

The consciousness of each one of us has its own  characteristic vibratory signature that affects our health and those around us. Emoto Sensei was able to demonstrate that thoughts and feelings can change frozen water into beautiful crystalline structures, or destroy the water’s energetic structure, depending on the nature of the thoughts and feelings.

It has long been known that meditation changes not only the brain of the meditator but the physiology of those sitting close by. The science of “entrainment” – of how energetic vibrations are able to affect objects at a distance, including the human body, has brought us fascinating revelations. For example, how the periods of female roommates tend to synchronize over time.

The truth is that every thought we think, every word we speak, and every emotion we feel is an invisible force that can be used to heal or harm ourselves and others. The old adage, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” is simply not true.

The clear lesson is that we should be aware of the invisible influences on our health, and cultivate those energies that promote the deepest health and healing.
